| 2007 Outlook |
| |
| Ben Tschepikow missed most of the 2006 season after undergoing back surgery
in the spring … finally appears healthy, returning to the field late in the
summer in the Texas Collegiate League … his ailing back limited his freshman
campaign and brought his 2006 season to an end after just 14 games … now
fully recovered from surgery, Tschepikow turned in a strong fall practice and
has the inside track on the starting job at second base … one of the best pure
hitters on the Razorbacks' roster, he hit an impressive .400 over the second
half of the 2005 season … capable of playing shortstop or third base as well,
he has excellent speed and footwork to go along with a strong arm. |
| Sophomore (2006) |
| |
| Tschepikow played in only 14 games with 11 starts as a sophomore … chronic
back problems derailed his season and necessitated surgery that put him
on the shelf until summer ball … batted just .167 in 36 painful at bats …
turned in a solid game in the Hogs’ 3-0 win over Oklahoma State on Feb. 11
in Mobile, Ala., at the Jaguar Invitational, going 2 for 3 with a double … was
1 for 3 with a run scored on Feb. 25 against Louisiana Tech … played in three
games of the Rainbow Baseball Tournament in Honolulu, Hawai’i on Feb. 28
vs. Washington and then March 1 and March 4 vs. Texas-Arlington … hit his
only home run of the season on March 4 against UTA … made his final start of
the season against Cal State Northridge on March 10 … his final appearance
of the season came on March 11 game against the Matadors as a defensive
replacement at second base. |
| Freshman (2005)
|
| |
Tschepikow took a little bit of time to adjust to Division-I baseball, but the
Fayetteville freshman came on late in 2005 and proved to be an excellent
hitter … saw action at designated hitter and second base in his frosh campaign
… made 16 starts and saw action in 21 games … struggled with a back
injury that flared up late in the season … the freshman brought speed and
aggressiveness to the Hogs' lineup … batted .400 (24 for 60) on the season
with a .514 on-base percentage … finished with 16 RBI and 14 walks while
only striking out six times in 60 at bats … playing time first increased after
second baseman John Henry Marquardt injured his knee on April 23,
Tschepikow hit .462 from that point on … got his first hit against Centenary
on March 22, and collected at least one hit in 15 of the 18 games he played
… batted .453 with 14 RBI since getting his first hit … put together a 10-game hitting streak as a reserve from April 5 to May 14 … saw his first action as a
Razorback on March 5 against Illinois-Chicago … scored a run and picked up
one RBI in the game … drove in his second run of the season on March 11 vs.
Eastern Illinois with a RBI ground out … got his first hit at Centenary on March
22 … went 1 for 1 in a start at second base against Northern Colorado on April
5 … substituted in the 10th inning on April 9 and drove in the game-winning
run with two outs for only his third hit of his career … collected two hits in
three at bats and hit his first career home run at Oral Roberts on April 12 …
started at DH for the Hogs on April 19 at SMS and went 1 for 4 with one strikeout
… went 2 for 2 with two RBI against Oral Roberts on April 26 … had his
first three-hit game in the first game of a doubleheader on April 30 at
Kentucky, going 3 for 4 with his first career double … went 2 for 3 in the series
opener against Florida on May 6 with a RBI and a run scored … followed that
with one hit on May 7 … was 2 for 5 with two RBI on May 8 vs. the Gators …
got only one hit at Alabama, a single on May 13, but reached base five times
and scored three of the Hogs' 10 runs … drew four walks against the Crimson
Tide. SEC Tournament: Tschepikow went 2 for 4 with a walk and a run scored
against Alabama on May 26. NCAA Austin Regional: Tschepikow put up outstanding
numbers in NCAA Tournament … started three of the four games in
Austin - all three against Texas … hit .417 with five hits in 12 at bats against
the Longhorns … drove in five runs and scored two more … went 3 for 4 with
a run scored and two RBI in the Razorbacks' 9-2 win over Texas on June 4. |
