Casey Coon signed on with the Hogs in May and should make an immediate impact in the infield after earning NJCAA All-America honors in 2006 … projected as a second baseman after earning Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors last season … has good power at the plate and speed to be a threat on the base paths … possesses excellent hands and a strong arm … able to play either second base or shortstop.

Coon exploded onto the junior college scene as a sophomore in 2006 under the guidance of head coach Tim Chambers. Sophomore (2006): Coon batted .368 and finished second in the wood bat SWAC … he swiped 29 bases, scored 36 runs and posted a .435 onbase percentage in 57 games … collected 69 total hits to rank second in the conference … had 13 doubles, three triples and three home runs while driving in 31 runs for the Coyotes … fielded .929 at shortstop with just 15 errors in 211 chances (118 assists and 78 putouts) … walked 12 times and struck out just 18 times … named the SWAC MVP and first-team all-conference as well as earning All-America honors. Freshman (2005): Coon missed most of the 2005

Coon was a standout prepster at Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nev., for head coach Brian Whitaker. Senior (2004): A broken wrist limited Coon's playing time as a senior … batted .451 with six home runs in limited action. Junior (2003): Coon earned all-Nevada recognition at shortstop after hitting .440 with six home runs, 15 stolen bases and 45 RBI … was named first-team all-conference, as well as team MVP and team captain.

Casey is the son of Doug and Darcy Coon … has three sisters, Jamie, Stacie and Katie, and one brother, Tyler … enjoys hunting and fishing … majoring in sociology and criminal justice … choose Arkansas over Georgia, Arizona State, Oregon State, TCU, Rice and San Diego State.
