Nick Schmidt enters the 2007 season as one of the elite pitchers in college
baseball … the left-hander is a preseason first-team All-American by
Louisville Slugger, Rivals.com and the NCBWA … he is also on the watch
list for the Brooks Wallace Award given annually to the top college baseball
player … he will contend for the Golden Spikes Trophy that is also
awarded to the best college baseball player … a first-team All-American
by Louisville Slugger and the College Baseball Foundation in 2006, as well
as a second-team All-American by Baseball America and Rivals.com …
named the SEC Pitcher of the Year by league coaches and first-team All-
SEC … was also an ABCA All-South Region honoree … selected to pitch for
the USA National Team during the summer of 2006, Schmidt posted a 3-
1 record with a 1.31 ERA in 34.1 innings of work … was the winning pitcher
in the gold medal game of the International University Sports
Federation (FISU) World Championship against Chinese Taipei in Havana,

Schmidt was nearly flawless in his sophomore campaign, quickly gaining
recognition nationally as one the top pitchers in the nation … a first-team
All-American by Louisville Slugger, he was also selected as a a secondteam
All-American by Baseball America, Rivals.com as well as garnering
All-America honors from the NCBWA and the College Baseball Foundation
… was named the SEC Pitcher of the Year by league coaches, first-team
All-SEC and to the ABCA All-South Region team … finished the season with
a 9-3 record and a 3.01 ERA in 116.2 innings of work … struck out 145 batters
while issuing 50 walks … the 145 strikeouts were the second-most in
school history and second in the SEC last season, while his 53 strikeouts
looking led the league … finished with a three-to-one strikeout-to-walk
ratio … posted eight double-digit strikeout performances in 17 starts …
allowed just 90 hits on the season for a .211 opponent batting average
that led the league … opened the year by not allowing a hit in his first
two starts (12 innings) … threw 13.2 innings before allowing his first hit
… the sophomore pitched the first six innings of the 12th no-hitter in
school history against Oklahoma State on Feb. 11 in Mobile, Ala. … struck
