year at Broughton High School in 2006. Senior (2006): Smalling hit .476 with 34 RBI and 10 stolen bases … was 8-2 on the mound wit a 2.58 ERA and 64 strikeouts … a first-team all-state selection by the North Carolina Coaches Association … the Cap 7 Player of the Year … also earned all-conference and all-academic honors … the 2006 Diamond Sports All- Wake County Player of the Year … named to the All-Impact team for North Carolina. Junior (2005): He hit .338 as a junior with two home runs, five doubles and 20 RBI … named to the third-team All-Impact team and was an NC Preps all-state first-team honoree … also named first-team all-conference.
